Blerg… aka Day 3 of the Whole30

3 01 2013

Oh. My. God. I can’t believe it’s only Day 3. I feel like crapola! Luckily (or unluckily?) the Whole30 timeline basically tells me that I should – apparently “Your body is working its way through a whole host of junk it stored from the foods (or food-like-products) you used to eat”.

Also – “Make good choices” ha. Actually i’ve been really good on the self-indulgence, or lack there of. Tea and water have become my drink of choice – btw has anyone tried this tea from David’s tea:

forever nuts tea

So so good; it has apples, almonds, cinnamon and beetroot in it, which turns it this weird lovely shade of pink. It’s been my go-to choice of drink while i’m sitting at my desk at work (instead of my beloved Timmy’s steeped tea!)

Day 2 wasn’t horrible, I definitely felt off, but nothing like today. Want to cry a bit…
Yesterdays eats were pretty similar to Day 1
Breakfast – quiche and bacon
Lunch – chicken thighs with spinach salad

(See what I mean about the portions? Granted the hubs doesn’t like the quiche and wasn’t home for lunch stuff, so I guess it makes sense).
Dinner – was supposed to be Turkey Legs with some sweet potato pancakes and spinach. The pancakes and spinach worked out ok, however the turkey legs were taking forever to cook!!! I seriously waited for probably an extra hour after the recipe called for. Ridiculous. They will be on the dinner menu for tonight I guess. The sweet potato pancakes though, were delicious! I cooked up a batch and will most likey be having some for breakfast tomorrow!

Sidenote: this Whole30 program has me drinking coffee! I never drink coffee (I mean regular coffee, grande non-fat deliciousness in a cup is a different story), however since I can’t have my steeped tea (because it black is not so yummy), I’ve turned to flavoured coffee… black. DO you like how I go from “I can’t have coffee because I hate the taste of it so I add anything and everything possible to mask it” to “small black coffee please”? Ya, I don’t get it either…

Anyways. I really would like to get back to working out – but I feel like anything I do would be half-assed. But, I feel worse not doing anything.
Might have to take an afternoon siesta instead of a lunch break to combat this wicked headache I have too…

Man If I was reading someone’s “review” of the Whole30 and it sounded like me, I would be running the other way…

Anyone else feel like this in the first week of the Whole30?

I think day 2 wasn’t too bad for me because I blogged it too early. At about 5 at night I got a crazy headache and when I woke this morning I was so tired.luckily it’s my rest day so no extra energy used for Crossfit. I’m going to try to sneak in a nap too. Have you ever tried Kombucha? It’s whole 30 approved and all I’ve been drinking except water but I’m going to try the tea you suggested. Good luck!

I have tried Kombucha but not for a while, thanks for the tip! I hope you love the tea!!

Those sweet potato pancakes sound good! Would you mind posting the recipe?

And do you actually like coffee black? I’m tempted to try a blonde or medium roast, but like you, I like my lattes/mochas. 😉 A caffeine boost would be most welcome.

I’m in the middle of day 2… mostly just fatigued and my brain is slightly fuzzy and suffering from ADD. Haha! I wouldn’t say no to a 4-hour nap.

Here’s the recipe – I changed it a bit though, only used about 2 cups of sweet potato and 3 eggs, plus a tiny bit of coconut flour (and no pepper)

I actually hate coffee, with a passion. I tried a light roast and thought it tasted like dirty water, so a friend suggested a medium flavoured coffee. I don’t love it, but it’s something caffinated in the morning!

Interesting change! Did it not taste as good with the regular recipe? I’m surprised coffee makes the paleo list, in all honesty! Haha.
